Logical Errors

False Dependence

The false dependence fallacy operates similarly to that of false cause, except that it looks, looks backward in time to establish connections. For example "Roosevelt was a warlike president. He did many things that encouraged the expansion of World War II and America's involvement. If Roosevelt hadn't been president, we would never have been in the war." The fallacy here lies in the contention that American involvement depended on Roosevelt's presidency and that no other state of affairs could have brought about the same result.
